Our Pathway to Truth and Reconciliation

January 20, 2025

In 2023, Enhance Energy established its commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, with the intent to create efforts that were actionable and engaged employees throughout the organization.

This work was initially guided by an Indigenous-owned consultancy, shaping early approaches and providing insight into establishing meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities. Recognizing the importance of Truth and Reconciliation, Enhance Energy implemented accountability and governance through its Executive Leadership Team, for sponsorship, support and input at the highest levels. To foster engagement throughout the organization, staff participated in sharing circles, sharing what Reconciliation means to them, and their hopes for the future as Enhance Energy actively participates in Reconciliation.

An important part of this work is learning about colonial history, including the impact of the Indian Act and Residential Schools. To steward this learning, the University of Alberta’s “Indigenous Canada” course was offered to employees. Staff individually completed modules and participated in monthly group discussions to share insights and reflections. While conversations were sometimes difficult and uncomfortable, the openness created space for knowledge sharing and personal growth.

Though in the early stages of this pathway, Enhance Energy’s focus remains on fostering genuine relationships with Indigenous communities. This is done through participating and supporting employment and community initiatives with the Maskwacis Nations and Maskwacis Employment Center, along with supporting Indigenous-owned organizations through procurement and community investment programs.

As we head into 2025, Enhance Energy reaffirms its commitment to advancing Truth and Reconciliation. With a clear vision, defined commitment and specific areas of focus, Enhance Energy is dedicated to making strides in this meaningful work.
